We currently support two orphanages, one in District 5 and the other in Dong Nai.
The District 5 orphanage
Each week we run an English and Art/problem solving class… the kids are growing in their ability to speak and understand English as well as developing their thinking and problem solving skills.
Disabled children are not treated the same as able bodied children if they get sick. For example, if a disabled child has to go to hospital with breathing difficulties, they are not usually given a ventilator. So sometimes we are asked to find volunteers to work on shift, to help squeeze the ventilator bags so that the child can breath and has a chance to recover.
We have raised money for the roof to be replaced following a big storm and the interior of the orphanage to be redecorated, while adding a new room. We have also (through a local church) raised support to pay for the monthly medicine bill and the children’s monthly transportation and we’ve found funds for the children to go to the beach for a holiday.
We organise Christmas and Tet celebrations.
The orphanage in Dong Nai
We mainly fundraise for this orphanage and support them with practical needs.
We have just raised funds for three internal walls to be built, which means the children will be safe at night. Currently the only thing to stop anyone coming in are three chained dogs..
